Class/Program:
Science & STEM (ages 6-14)
Credentialed science/STEM teacher Helen Hixon will guide students through a series of hands-on science and STEM activities in a range of disciplines. All activities are appropriate and accessible to students in grades 1-8.
Session 1: Thursdays 10-11am Aug 31, Sept 7, 14, 28 (no class Sept 21)
Solar Power! Students will explore the power of the sun through a variety of hands-on science and STEAM activities.
Session 2: Thursdays 10-11am October 5, 12, 19& 26 (no skipped week)
What's bugging you? Students will explore the world of insects through a variety of hands-on science and STEAM activities.
Session 3: Thursdays 10-11am November 2, 9, 16 & 30 (no class Thanksgiving)
Make it go! Students will build and power model cars using a different form of propulsion each week.
Cost for 4 Science/STEM classes is $125 per student and includes all materials.
Class/Program
Ceramics Arts (age 5-12)
Professional potter Helen Hixon will guide students through a series of lessons in ceramics handbuilding and surface decorating techniques. All activities are appropriate and accessible to students in grades 1-8.
Session 1: Thursdays 11:00-12:15 Aug 31, Sept 7, 14, 28 (no class Sept 21)
Creatures real & imaginary: Students will use a variety of clay Handbuilding techniques to make fun and creative creatures.
Session 2: Thursdays 11:00-12:15October 5, 12, 19& 26 (no skipped week)
Miniatures! Back by popular demand: Students will use a variety of handbuilding techniques to create fun and very cute miniatures...we'll even have an end of class "exhibit" in the smallest art Gallery.
Session 3: Thursdays 11-12:15 November 2, 9, 16 & 30 (no class Thanksgiving)
Who do you love: Students will create several different personalized trinket dishes suitable for gifting to the ones they love. Pieces will be available for pickup early December.
Cost for 4 Ceramics and Glazing classes is $200 per student and includes all materials, use of tools and both bisque & glaze firing of pieces made.
One time class from 11am-12:15pm.
$45 per student (enrichment certificates from MVA or PCA accepted).
Sgraffito is a decoration produced on pottery or ceramics by scratching through a surface to reveal a different color underneath. Participants will select a shape and form a trinket dish using a white clay. They will then brush on a layer of colored underglaze and scratch a design through the colored underglaze. The staff at Mountain Pottery will bisque fire, dip in clear glaze and glaze fire your pieces for you. Dishes are ready for pickup or shipping in about 3-5 weeks.
