Pottery Wheel Experience

Mountain Pottery is pleased to offer small hands-on pottery wheel experience for your social or family group. Each class can accommodate 2-4 people age 14 and above. The cost is $75 per person with a 2 person minimum or $100 for a private lesson. A $75 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your reservation. The Saturday & Sunday 11am class time can be booked below.
However please reach out by email or text for special requests. We can often accommodate classes at 11am or 2pm any day we are open. We can also often accommodate larger groups as well as younger children...just ask.
Each participant will try to make 2 pieces on the potter's wheel with assistance from our skilled instructors. It's fun, it's challenging, it's an experience! Following the wheel throwing experience we will recycle your clay or you may choose to have the Mountain Pottery staff bisque fire, glaze and glaze fire your pieces for $5 per piece (your choice of dipping glaze color). Finished pieces are ready for pick-up or shipping in 3-5 weeks. Your ceramics will be food safe and dishwasher safe.Any pieces not picked up within 3 months of the class will be considered "orphaned"

Pottery Wheel experience
Pottery wheel experiences are focused on wheel throwing techniques and form. Our basic 1.5 hour class is perfect for beginners (locals and visitors). Class size is limited to family or social group of 2-4 participants (please check with us if your group has more than 4 people or younger children). The cost is $75 per person for 2 or more students and includes all tools, materials and instruction for you to experience the fun of pottery wheel throwing. At the end of the class we will recycle your clay or for just $5 per piece you can have your pieces glazed in your choice of glaze color and fired (bisque and glaze). Pieces are typically ready for pick-up or to be shipped in about 3-4 weeks
Hand Building
Hand building with clay involves techniques such as pinch pots, coils, slabs… Select from one of our examples (see below) or bring your own idea. The cost is $75 per person for 2 or more students and includes all tools, materials and instruction. Firing fee is based on the size of your finished piece (typically around $10-15) and includes your choice of dip glaze which our staff will do for you after your piece has been bisque fired. Another firing at a higher temperature and your piece will be ready for pick up or shipping (about 3-5 weeks from your class date).
Sgraffito Trinket Dish
Sgraffito is a decoration produced on pottery or ceramics by scratching through a surface to reveal a different color underneath. In this 1 hour class participants will select a shape and form a trinket dish using a white clay. They will then brush on a layer of colored underglaze and scratch a design through the colored underglaze. The cost is $45 per person. The staff at Mountain Pottery will bisque fire, dip in clear glaze and glaze fire your pieces for you. Dishes are ready for pickup or shipping in about 3-5 weeks.

We have an extensive design center with slab roller, tools for imprinting and cutting specific shapes, molding forms and many other tools for you to create a unique and personal ceramic piece. We have workshop ideas for people of all ages and abilities including young children and individuals with special needs.

Plan your next holiday or special occasion with us! We have lots of ideas for Valentine's day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and more. Keep in mind that it takes up to 4-5 weeks for a piece to be ready for pick-up or shipping...Plan ahead.
